Have known this place for 35years and have never been so disappointed. We are not moaney people I have to say firstly!!!we were in the front bar and our drinks were done in the back bar out of sight which I didn't like .All four of us thought our drinks were weak and didn't enjoy .I actually left most of mine ! When I asked the barmaid if my spirit was a double as ordered she replyed "yeah" and had such a bad attitude.I was really disapointed as I love this old place .

Firstly, since operating the black cross since 2019 we have never been able to use the draught and postmix in the front bar due to issues regarding new equipment being needed, this has been the same since 2019, whilst it isn't ideal having to do this, the work involved to have these draught pumps renewed and reconnected involves architects, lots of planning permission due to being grade 2 listed and of course space - which we don't have a lot of under our bar or in our cellar. We have to serve from one bar to ease staff having to make half in one bar and half in the other, you are more than welcome to pop into the other bar to watch your drinks be made, however I understand your concerns and I am working towards a solution.

I can only apologise if the staff member came across rude, we are bound by the weights and measures act and therefore couldn't have short measured you without risking hefty fines and also breaking the law, however you should have been reassured rather than what you described.
