Money not well spent
We booked a tour to Mixquic on November 2, supposedly “the most beautiful day.” Less than an hour before departure, we received a message that the pick-up location had been changed, requiring an extra Uber ride to get there. After an excruciatingly long bus ride, we arrived in Mixquic. The tour began, and we had to follow the guide, who moved at a fast pace (in a really crowded town). The guide added no real value: “if you want to eat in a restaurant, you can find one over there,” or “if you have to go to the bathroom, look for a sign with ‘WC’” … At some locations, he shared small facts, but it was hard to understand him as he spoke near loud sound systems playing music. After an hour of walking around town, we were left on our own: “now you can explore for three hours,” but we had already seen everything.
The “meeting point” to find our guide was set in the middle of the overcrowded town. On top of that, thousands of people kept pouring into the town, without any sort of crowd management. It was on the verge of becoming very dangerous. One tiny shred of panic, for whatever reason, and a lot of people could easily have been trampled.
Essentially, we paid $100 each for nothing more than a collective Uber ride.
We didn’t want to wait 2-3 hours to go home, so we decided to book an Uber, which only cost us $20.
Long story short, the whole activity was a scam.
